One thing I really like about "The evolution religion" album is the guitar solos. The shredding is sick and memorial along with the many time changes you find throughout the entire album. Some of the guitar work on "Life and Dreams" reminds me of Thrash legends-Tourniquet. Love the guitars on "Cold" as well as all the time changes, I can see the Moss Pit stirring on this one. Also for your listening pleasure, there are some Doom guitar moments that give this album even more variance. For example on the song "Tears on My Pillow" there are Doom Metal touches mixed with some smok'n guitar shreds. Also we can't leave out the song "Obituary" which opens with Doom then works itself into a guitar frenzy then brings it back down by returning to Doom making this a very clever tune. (For a definition of Doom Metal see Site Info).
The Thrash genius of Step Cousin, along with the Christ centered lyrics, has landed them a spot in the "Mosh Pit" here at Christian Molten Metal Bands.
Speaking of lyrics lets check out some from the song "This is the Time."

"This is the Time"
This is the time
This is the place for broken hearts
This is the time for you
The darkness torn away
The Son will shred the night
The future is written
For those who trust in Christ
I really appreciate the vocal work of Kelly Mathews because it's clean and crisp making it easy to understand the lyrics even with the Death vocals which are also understandable when they take the forefront. Kelly really knows how to mix up vocal styles going from Raspy to Death to Normal or more regular sounding vocals. He even sounds like one of the vocalist for Grave Forsaken on the tune "I Don't Need It" which is a cool track with its hammer/pounding Drums which remind of the traditional Thrash kings-"Deliverance."
If you like your Thrash heavy and technical but slightly on the groovier side, then I can see you liking Step Cousin.
Some other bands that are similar are Stricken, Grave Forsaken, and Lordchain.
