Staynlis
Staynlis formed back in 2007 and hails from the central 'wheat state' - Kansas, USA. They originally went by the moniker-'Waking Samuel' then promptly changed to Staynlis which is a spin off of the word stainless. The band chose the name Staynlis due to the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross and His blood that was shed for all who will believe in Him and His blood, whom are forgiven and 'Staynlis' in God's eyes.
So the question is what does Staynlis bring to the table for those who are hungry for more hard hitting music? Well, Staynlis offers up some of the best diversified AOR - Rock/Hard Rock that these ears have heard in a while. As an additional bonus, we find that this band's Rock'n music is lightly seasoned with Grunge flavorings. Each tune is different and catchy in its own way leading the listener to want more. Staynlis' music tells of their trials, their errors, and their successes in their relationship with our Savior-Jesus Christ, fused together to create a sound & emotion all their own.
It seems that Staynlis is a some what underrated band maybe due to their Indie label. However don't let this deter you from checking out what this band offers, because what we have here is no less than a well produced gem.
Staynlis originally formed with the intention of reaching out to those that are seeking, hurting, and those who feel there is no hope and you will find reflections of this desire, throughout their music.

In 2007, Staynlis released their self-titled 4 track-EP which was well produced for a first offering by Tony Palacios(Guardian). With the release of their self-titled EP, Staynlis found their own sound and direction right off the bat! Performing nationwide while opening for national bands such as Kutless, Disciple and Decyfer Down they brought the message of hope and salvation by the blood of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to thousands!
By the way, On this EP, one tune that really stands out and is worth checking out, is the tune 'Savior'.

In 2014, Staynlis released their first full length album called 'Alive'. After a 6 year hiatus, the band seems to rise from the ashes like the cover art suggests and shows that they are still 'Alive'. When I listen to this album, there's a lot of mixed emotions going on because the band does such a wonderful job in transporting one back to the 80's & 90's yet still bringing us forward in time to rock of the early 2000's. I think that it's the well rounded and well executed mixture that keeps you hungry for more.
The new songs are in the same vain as their EP but the sound and music have matured and will bring forth new favorites for their fans to enjoy! The first release is “Where Have You Gone" which talks about the loss of a friend, family member or even oneself to the addictions of this world. The song has a very powerful message that all you have to do is release the grasps of addiction, stress, hatred and so on to God our Father and He will take away the pain that you drown yourself in.
Vocalist Shawn Ryan adds a lot to the band's sound and style with his medium range delivery. We find various moments where his delivery is on the softer side reminding me of Vocalists like Eric Clapton. Yes, we find that Shawn Ryan has plenty of depth as he reaches for a more gritty delivery on some of the harder tunes on this album. Then there are plenty of moments where we find him singing in a more normal vocal style on some of the edgier tracks. I look forward to hearing more in the future from Shawn as he can only get better and better with additional releases.
Guitars are handled from a duo Guitar approach by axe wielders Wade Richard & Mark Shroyer. Guitar play ranges from the simplistic Rock/Grunge style accompaniment to all out aggressive burst of energy. We also find, throughout the disc, plenty of sweet solos that draw comparisons to 80's guitarists like Slash(Guns N' Roses). Then there's the various types of acoustic guitar play that helps to round out the album. You are going to find that the guitar riffs are diversified enough to keep you Rock'n and coming back for more.

Guitarist Wade Richard shares: "We want to put it out there what we believe and why we believe it! We feel that each of these songs conveys exactly that. There are songs of loss, desperation and pain but there are also songs of hope, understanding and love. Each song is different from the next one…which we like!"
Staynlis states: "Staynlis is simply out to break down barriers and reach those that can’t be reached by any other medium. They want to give Christian music a different image, that it can ROCK and be in your face but still have a Christ centered message. This is a message that is definitely being heard".

"Where Have You Gone"
The last time I saw
A smile on your face
There were no tears
But that’s been erased
So many times
I’ve looked in your eyes
(I see the pain you’re drowning inside)
I don’t know you!
Where have you gone
The friend that I knew
Held my breath
Did my best by you
So where have you gone
(Do not repeat 1st time)
The needle takes bite
As it rushes through your veins
I’ll show you my God
Can erase all your pain
So many times
I’ve looked in your eyes
(I’ll heal the pain you’re drowning inside)
Don’t feed the pain!
(Repeat Chorus x2)
Solo---
Where have you gone
Friend that I knew…
(Repeat Chorus x2)
Where have you gone x3
"In The End"
(Featuring guest Rapper-Cash Hollistah)
I Have The Answers To The Questions
That Burn Deep Inside Of Your Mind
Is The Ending When He's Returning?
Your Fence Burns, So Jump To My Side
For Centuries Now, The Word Was Spoken
And Passed On With These Divine Signs
Are You Believing What You're Reading
Turn The Page Your In The End Times.
In The End
It's You And Me.
But Only You Decide On,
Where You Want To Be.
When The Stars All Fall
The Moon Turns Red
And This World We Know Is Dead
In The End
It's You And Me.
If You'd Begin Now Turn The Pages
You'd See I Get All The Glory
Victory Is Already Written
Which Side Are You In This Story?
In The End
It's You And Me.
But Only You Decide On,
Where You Want To Be.
When The Stars All Fall
The Moon Turns Red

In The End

It's worth noting that Staynlis has shared the stage with national artists such as Kutless, Disciple, Day of Fire, Superchick, Seventh Day Slumber, Building 429, Article One, Decyfer Down, December Radio, Stellar Kart, Jonah 33, Starlit Platoon, Sanctus Real & This Beautiful Republic.
One thing I have noticed about Staynlis is that as I have been listening to their album 'Alive' over and over again in preparation to write this review, I can truly say that this album only gets better and better with repeat listens. If you like bands like Kutless, Eric Clapton, and Sanctus Real then you are in good hands here with Staynlis. Pick up your copies of their material and Rock On.
