Living Sacrifice
Living Sacrifice formed back in 1989 in Little Rock, Arkansas and deliver up some bone crushing old-school Thrash Metal. The band takes the idea for their name from Romans 12:1 "Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God--this is your true and proper worship." The original members were Front man/Bassist-Darren Johnson, Lead Guitarist-Jason Truby(P.O.D.), Rhythm Guitarist-Bruce Fitzhugh, and Drummer-Lance Garvin(Soul Embraced/Throwdown/Zao).
With eight full-length albums to their credit, Living Sacrifice has proven that they are here to stay. In
In 1991 The band released their self-titled debut album which has been compared to some of the early works of Slayer. Living Sacrifice's debut was released on R.E.X. Records and is considered a Classic Thrash album.
In 1992 the band released their sophomore full-length album titled 'Nonexistent' which finds the band still on the R.E.X. Records label. With the release of their second album, the band is still producing Thrash oriented music however, they began moving in a new direction with Darren Johnson's vocals. Here his vocals take on an unusual form of Death style delivery that really didn't work out too well for the band.
In 1994 Living Sacrifice released their third full-length album titled 'Inhabit' on R.E.X. Records. Darren Johnson continues to handle vocal duties for the band. Here we find that Johnson's delivery is some what a mixture of his efforts on their debut combined with some sick Death vocals. The guitar work continues in the Thrash direction with some Extreme Metal techniques mixed in for effect. It must be said that this third release is extremely heavy and is not for the faint of heart!
In 1997 Living Sacrifice released their fourth full-length album titled 'Reborn' where we find the band releasing on a new label - Solid State Records. With this release there has been a major line up change with Darren Johnson being replaced by their original guitarist-Bruce Fitzhugh. Bruce steps up to fill the void and so the band's style, in essence, is "Reborn". No longer do we hear traditional Thrash/Death vocals because they have been replaced with cookie cutter Metal Core vocals.

In 1991 Living Sacrifice exploded onto the Metal Scene with the release of their highly acclaimed self-titled full-length debut album. Today, if one desires to purchase this highly collectible album you will need to be prepared to pay anywhere from 30 to 80 dollars. However, no Thrash Metal collection is complete without this vital piece of history complete with driving Thrash Metal riffs, blistering Speed Metal in the veins of Deliverance, some timely guitar solos that shred by Jason Truby(P.O.D.), and plenty of "Violence" to go around Ha ha!!!
Vocalist Darren Johnson is very similar in style to Vocalist-Paul Scozzafava(The Moshketeers). Johnson's vocals are delivered in a traditional Thrash barked out style common to the era. Some have even made comparisons with Darren Johnson to the early work of vocalist-Tom Araya(Slayer).
Lyrics are Christ centered and quite profound provoking thought with each line.
The following are a few excerpts from the band's lyrics:
The following are a few excerpts from the band's lyrics:
"Walls Of Separation"
Not a mere perception, an acquaintance
Conscious of sin, access to repentance
Acquitted through faith by justification
God through Christ brings reconciliation
Divided in universal guilt
Under condemnation
Proceed to the doors of mercy
Through the walls of separation...
...Exertion will not provide atonement
Man can escape the impending judgement
Fulfilled the purpose, designed to accomplish
Invoking Christ as Lord none shall perish
"Phargx Imas"
Harvest of the earth now takes place
Divine authority to remove the disgrace
Permission given the sickle is swung
Gathered together in the press they're slung
With great wickedness the vats overflow
Rising high, simulation of the flood
Return to ruin valley of blood
Not a mere perception, an acquaintance
Conscious of sin, access to repentance
Acquitted through faith by justification
God through Christ brings reconciliation
Divided in universal guilt
Under condemnation
Proceed to the doors of mercy
Through the walls of separation...
...Exertion will not provide atonement
Man can escape the impending judgement
Fulfilled the purpose, designed to accomplish
