Braveheart formed in 2007 and is a Crossover Thrash band from Hardyville (Bullhead City), Arizona. The term Crossover simply means that the band crossed over from Hardcore Punk to Thrash but still has elements of both genres present (See Genre Defs for more info on genres). Braveheart wasn't around when Hardcore was big back in the late 1970's through the early 1990's in the underground Metal scene. But they do a nice job of capturing the spirit of the HC Punk sound in their music as they carry the torch where others left off.
The band members are all big fans of the movie Braveheart but thats not what drew them to the name. The group chose their name while listening to a band called 'Clear Convictions' who has a song called "Braveheart" on their album.

In 2008 Braveheart released their 4-track EP titled 'Speak to these Bones' on X1981X Records. The four tracks included are 1. 1000 Times, 2. Big Burps, 3. Dem Bonez, 4. 1911. This release offers up some hard hitting heavy Crossover Thrash to sink ones teeth into. The only problem is with the recording being so short, its over before you know it. Were talking a whole thirteen minutes of all out Metal madness. Hopefully the band will be able to finish this Thrash'n album in the near future.
I have to say that the artwork for their EP is very cool and well done. Braveheart drew their inspiration for their cover art from Ezekiel 37 :1-14 Where Ezekiel is carried by the Lord to a valley full of dry bones. Then in verse 4 it says: He said to me,"prophesy concerning these bones and say to them: Dry bones hear the word of the Lord! 5) This is what the Lord God says to these bones: I will cause breath to enter you, and you will live. 6)I will put tendons on you, make flesh grow on you, and cover you with skin. I will put breath in you so that you come to life. Then you will know that I am Yahweh."

Lyrics are openly christian and bold leaving little doubt who our band here is serving as you can see in these lyrics to the song "Dem Bonez":
"Dem Bonez"
SPEAK TO THESE BONES
O SON OF MAN
O PROPHESY
OVER THESE BONES AND RAISE THE DEAD
THOUSANDS BY THOUSANDS
THESE BONES WHERE THEY LAY
ASLEEP IN THE VALLEY AWAITING THE BREATH
O DRY BONES, HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD
O DRY BONES, RISE UP AGAIN…
THUS SAYS THE LORD GOD
I WILL RAISE YOU FROM YOUR GRAVES
THUS SAYS THE LORD GOD
I WILL OPEN YOUR GRAVES, MY PEOPLE
CAN THESE BONES LIVE (4x)
Can these bones live (4x)
IF THE WORD OF GOD
IS TO RAISE THE DEAD
(SEND FORTH AND PROCLAIM (2x)) (2x)
SPEAK TO THESE BONES
O SON OF MAN
O PROPHESY
OVER THESE BONES AND RAISE THE DEAD
THOUSANDS BY THOUSANDS
THESE BONES WHERE THEY LAY
ASLEEP IN THE VALLEY AWAITING THE BREATH
O DRY BONES, HEAR THE WORD OF THE LORD
O DRY BONES, RISE UP AGAIN…

The production on the album is very well done permitting one to hear the instruments well. The vocalist sings in such a way that the lyrics are understandable. The Guitars shred via Thrash style, making this a collectors item for the Thrash Metal fan.
If you're like me and can't get your hands on enough Thrash, then you should consider these underground guys from Arizona who really get the speakers rock'n hard!
If you like Crossover Thrash bands like 'focused' or 'The Crucified' then I can see you possibly liking Braveheart as well.
