Titanic
Titanic formed in 1995 and are a Heavy Metal band that has been Rock'n for many years from the 'city of lights' -Las Vegas, Nevada. To Titanic's credit, they have released three full length albums, one Compilation of their best tunes, and two re-issues of their first two albums. The band is best described as having elements of bands like Judas Priest, Saint, or Quiet Riot without being a clone of either of the aforementioned bands.
In 1996 Titanic released their full length debut called 'Maiden Voyage' they got off to a pretty good start letting us know the genre direction of the band.
The maiden voyage of a ship, aircraft or other vessel is the first journey made by the vessel after shakedown. With this being said, with this debut release we also find this Metal band making their first journey or maiden voyage so to speak.
When Titanic came on the scene, it was as if they were going against the current or flow because the 80's Metal scene was sinking and disappearing into the depths of history while a new era was dawning which ushered in the 'Grunge' scene. However, these guys made it clear that they would not be bullied into conforming to music trends of the day.
Vocalist Simon Tyler is right up in your face with a pure Metal vocal attack. I have to say that I really like the vocals on this release.
Our Axe man is William Paul Menchen who also is known as Bill Menchen. On this disc, he really showcases some sweet guitar riffage that has a way of grabbing ones attention.
The recording process on 'Maiden Voyage', made use of a drum machine however, the percussionist who toured with the band was drummer Steve Lamb.
On this first release the lyrics were not openly Christ centered being more on the weak side. I don't think I would even call this album a Christian album because there's hardly any evangelical substance.

Titanic's sophomore 2002 release 'Screaming In Silence' is slightly heavier and a good followup to their previous release. Simon Tyler returns to the mic with another great performance while Bill Menchen delivers the Metal goods as he chops his way through each tune with his axe in a similar fashion to their debut release.
Guitars incorporate the use of various genre styles like Bluesy Metal riffs, to Groove Thrash riffs, to general melodic noodling.
Like the bands debut release, I don't think I would call this a sold out christian release due to the lack of Christ centered lyrics. However, there is one song that stands out "See Through My Eyes" that touches on an evangelical theme: "I Felt Pain you won't believe, I gave My all and set you free, You're not alone, Everyones the same, Looking for the Truth to ease the pain."
Once again the band made use of a drum machine on recording the album however, Timothy II joins the band to help the band keep time on tour. Additional drums were laid down by Robert Sweet(Stryper) on tracks 11,12, & 13.

In 2007 Titanic released 'Full Steam Ahead' which many would say to be the album that everything came together for the band. When it comes to heaviness, this has to be the heaviest album released by Titanic thus far. This is the kind of Metal that's in your face driving hard like a ship set to full throttle! Yes, this album will get your fist pump'n and your head bang'n.
The lineup has changed drastically from the first two releases with vocalist David St. Andrew replacing Simon Tyler and drummer David White replacing Timothy II. Our axe man is still founder-Bill Menchen who takes things to a new level on this disc with some heavy shredding that can peal paint off the sides of a Cruise ship.
Vocalist David Andrew takes things to the next level for Titanic with his 80's inspired gritty vocal delivery. The only comparison that I can think of to make to Simon's vocal style is that of Kevin Dubrow(Quiet Riot) or Rex Scott of the christian bands (Zion,X-Sinner).
We also find that the band re-recorded the last two tracks using drummer Robert Sweet(Stryper) and original vocalist Simon Tyler. The two tracks are "Nightmare" off the album 'Maiden Voyage' & "Come Home" which is off the album 'Screaming In Silence" but this tune was renamed with the original name being "Hollywood Blvd".
This Metal band, for the most part, represents a new crew on deck with the exception of guitarist Bill Menchen. With that said, we also find another aspect that is new for this band from the "City Of Lights". We find that Titanic has taken a bold stance for God with their Christ centered lyrics that we didn't see on previous releases. The following are some lyrics to a few tunes off this album:

"The Sea"
I Saw An Angel Stand In The Sun
He Cried Aloud To Everyone
The Flesh Of The Kings Feed Of Them All
The Flesh Of The Captains Great And Small
The Sea Gave Up The Dead
Who Layed Down Under The Deep Blue
Death And Hades Gave Up
The Dead Who Were In Them Too
I Saw An Angel Come Down From Heaven
He Had A Great Chain In His Hand
Laid Hold Of The Dragon The Serpent Of Old
He Cast Him Down Into The Hole
The Sea Gave Up The Dead
Who Layed Down Under The Deep Blue
Death And Hades Gave Up
The Dead Who Were In Them Too
I Saw A Throne They Ran From His Face
He Sat On His Throne And They Found No Place
I Saw The Dead The Small And The Great
Stand Before God And Before The Lake

In 2010 Titanic released an album called 'Wreckage- The Best of and The Rest Of' which is a remixe, remastered compilation album of the bands better songs. This disc consist of 17 tracks with all of them being the better songs off Titanic's first three albums. However, for diehard Titanic fans there's a treat at the latter part of the disc with the last four tracks. The four have been re-recorded using drummer Robert Sweet(Stryper) and all four are off the album 'Maiden Voyage'. The follwing are the four tracks -"Don't Care" , "Freak Show" , "Ocean Of Blood" , and "I Am Watching You". With Robert Sweet on drums, it helps to beef up the songs a bit giving them an additional edge. The band states: "We asked him to - really let lose and to drum like you've always wanted to - with no restrictions - and that's exactly what he did!"

In 2010, Titanic released their re-issue of the album 'Maiden Voyage' which comes with new album artwork as well. If you look back over the band's album artwork over the years, one thing that stands out is that Titanic often changed the way they presented their logo. Most bands come up with a logo and stick pretty close to it on each new release. However, Titanic didn't get hung up on those kinds of things and often changed their logo which can often make things confusing when searching out the band's releases. However, it still makes for interesting album covers to look at.
If you had a hard time getting into the first debut release of Maiden Voyage then it's not to say that your not going to like the 2010 re-issue because it really is a a new release so to speak. This re-issue has been remixed, remastered, and patially re-recorded. In addition, drummer Robert Sweet(Stryper) has once again stepped into his oval office to save the day delivering up some powerful blows to the kit. On this re-issue, Robert helps out on all tracks to inject more energy into the song's mix so that they can reach max throttle and cruise into the next generation's set of speakers.
If you are considering purchasing an album by Titanic then this re-issue is a good initiation into the music artistry of Titanic.
