In this interview, I was able to catch up with Roger Dale Martin, Nick Layton, Robyn Kyle Basauri
of the U.S. based Heavy Metal band 'Reign of Glory' to ask them a few questions about their album 'All Will Bow'.
(Jacob) It's so good to finally be having this interview with your band:
(Roger) thanks so much. We love it!
(Robyn) Thank you, Jacob, it's my pleasure to be here.
(Nick) Glad to be here!
(Jacob) So, can you give us some insight into what got you involved in the music industry and what is the ultimate purpose of the band?
(Roger) I became involved with the music industry when I auditioned for the band Emerald. Passed the audition and began my journey. The purpose of Reign of Glory is to glorify the Alpha and Omega. Encourage the masses. Take minds to a better place.
(Nick) I started out as a guitar teacher and eventually recorded a solo album called Storming the Castle in 2008. From there I formed the USA Metal band FireWolfe in 2010 and have been going strong ever since. Reign of Glory is the first time I’ve recorded an album with God as the focus, and it feels great! Glorifying Him in all we do, including our music, is the goal.
(Jacob) Who was the founding member(s) and when did the band officially form?
(Roger) the founding members are Nick Layton and Roger Dale Martin. The band officially formed when Robyn Kyle Basauri joined the dynamic duo.
(Jacob) Can you shed some light on where your band's name came from and what is the meaning behind it?
(Roger) The bands name came from a brain storming session. Christ will reign for 1000 years. A pure Reign of Glory. Events happen and ultimately Christ reigns forever and ever.
(Nick) Yeah, it was an epic brainstorming session! Many of our initial ideas were already taken, which we found out after doing a google search, but I’m really happy with what we ended up with.
(Jacob) What is the meaning behind your album's cover art for "All Will Bow"?
(Roger) Sooner or later every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father.
(Jacob) What brand of instruments do you all use and why do you prefer that specific brand over another?
(Roger) I prefer Fender Precision basses over all other brands. I love the deep low end growl. The harder you beat it, the more you get out of it.
(Nick) I use guitars by Charvel, Chubtone, Kramer, Carvin, etc. I usually go for a super strat style guitar with a Floyd Rose. Amp wise its mainly Marshall and Friedman. In the immortal words of Yngwie Malmsteen “if it
sounds good, it is good.”
(Robyn) I play Fender and Cordoba guitars. I use Marshall amps and Shure mics.
(Jacob) Do you all have any hobbies outside of music that help to rejuvenate or inspire creativity within your music?
(Roger) My ultimate hobby is knife sharpening. There is something extremely satisfying when you create a razor sharp edge. Look out!
(Nick) A long walk or jog will almost always clear my head and inspire some new musical ideas. Happens all the time!
(Robyn) My wife and I are big tennis fans and play every chance we get. I also like to cook, study different languages and prophecy.
(Jacob) Are there any artists that have played a part in influencing the members of your band along with your band's sound?
(Roger) my biggest influence comes from Mel Schacher from Grand Funk Railroad. Huge massive tone with an attitude.
(Nick) Too many to mention really, but bands like Savatage, Queensryche, and Dokken all play a part, as well as guitarists like John Sykes, Michael Schenker, Uli Roth, Ritchie Blackmore, Gary Moore, Vinnie Moore and
Yngwie Malmsteen.
(Jacob) What is the biggest problem that you have had to overcome as a band?
(Roger) our biggest problem was coming up with the name of the band. (Lots of names were already taken)
(Nick) yeah, we really didn’t have too many speed bumps surprisingly. There was songwriting chemistry and a strong work ethic from the beginning.
(Robyn) I'm slow with technology and figuring out DAWs. LOL!
(Jacob) Can you go into some detail about the musical direction on your latest release 'All Will Bow'?
(Roger) melody, harmony, shred fest, real vocals completely locked in tight.
(Nick) I just wanted to write songs with cool guitar riffs and catchy choruses. I feel like we did!
(Jacob) Do you feel like you achieved what you set out to accomplish on your latest project?
(Roger) We achieved our goal and more!
(Nick) Definitely!
(Jacob) What is your favorite song to perform, whether live or in studio, and why?
(Roger) Love came to Die is my favorite. It always makes me cry.
(Nick) Last Daze always grabs me. I’m still surprised how well that song came together!
(Jacob) Were there any special or funny moments during the recording process of the album?
(Roger) In a certain part of a certain song, I kept asking Nick if his note choices were correct because they sounded “off” to me. He assured me that every note he played was meant to be there. I discovered later
that the problem was me. I was playing the wrong bass note!
(Nick) *Shakes head*, bass players....
(Robyn) The legend of the drums.
(Nick) *Shakes head*, singers...
(Jacob) At this time, are you planning to keep moving forward as a band and are there any plans for future projects in the works?
(Roger) we are moving full steam ahead. Live gigs and more albums.
(Nick) Yep, bring it on!
(Jacob) Thank you for your time and thoughtful responses to each and every question. I am excited about your latest release and am looking forward to hearing more from the band in the future.
(Roger). Thanks Jacob. I had fun doing the interview. Christian Molten Metal rocks!
(Nick) Thanks Jacob, can’t wait for your readers to hear the new album!
(Robyn)Thanks for having me and God bless!
