Recon
Recon comes to us from Southern California and what we have here is a true Molten Metal Band in the genre of Power Metal that is one of the best metal bands in the christian industry. You will also find some elements of Thrash throughout the album in the way that backing vocals are barked out and in the songs "Holy is the Lord" and "Behind Enemy Lines" where we find some thrash'n metal riffs.
Recon released their album "Behind Enemy Lines" in 1990 and helped pave the way for christian Metal music with their Classical Power Metal sound. The name Recon is short for reconnaissance and the meaning is to go behind enemy lines. Recon's George Ochoa states that "were going behind enemy lines into the devil's territory. We go there and share the light of Jesus Christ because we are the soldiers and the Lord wins the battles."

The song "Behind Enemy lines" was actually written by Jimmy P. Brown of Deliverance and the song actually is a Thrash tune that has some speed metal parts similar to Deliverance's style on their early albums.
The lead vocalist Vett Roberts Is very talent and hits very high notes alot like Michael Sweet of the band Stryper. I like the way the words are easily understood and the production quality of the album was very well done especially for that era.
Lyrics are openly Christ centered and I must say that this is how it's done to bands wandering how to share their faith in their lyrics.

"Choose This Day"
Wasted time my friend Don't' you know we're in the bitter end He's coming back again To save us all from this world of sin Christ the Savior, He'll set you free Christ died for Sins Come and receive Rise It's your decision Choose this day whom you will serve Come and confess Him Jesus Christ The only way Ask Him in today Emotional leaders are coming down New Age logic That lies been around Religious society It's insanity A hope for you and me Christ the Savior, He'll set you free Christ die for sins, come and receive Rise It's your... Rise It's your... in your heart He'll stay "Eternal Destiny"
Right now a revelation Sweeping across the nations The end is near Crystal clear Seven years of tribulation Like a lion on the prowl The Devil's hungry for your soul There's a number 666 I beg you don't receive it 'cause if you do you'll burn in Hell Burning there forever Like a lion on the prowl The devil's hungry for your soul This is your warning The choice that you make will destine eternity Take heed this warning Jesus is King Satan has lost Can't you see The Lamb of God Sits on His throne Judging all the nations Those who deny the grace of God Shall be sentenced to the lake of fire Like a lion on the prowl The Devil's hungry for your soul This is your... "Take Us Away"
Lord take us away, we're looking to be set free For we believe Your word, that You'll return Like you said one day In a blink of an eye Trumpets will sound Dead in Christ will arise You will come back for your bride Take us away like a thief in the night Take us away From this world of hurt Sorrow and pain Take us away "Alive!" He is alive He is alive He is risen He is alive He is alive Like a dream I feel so free I love the Lord in me By my faith my love grows strong Oh He's so mighty His kingdom is at hand Repent Believe and be saved By his love we must stand It's time to live Live for the King He is alive... |
Showing the diversity of the band, there's even a praise tune on the album called "Holy is the Lord" that actually is a slow thrash song.
Recon's album "Behind Enemy Lines" comes highly recommended to fans of Sacred Warrior, Stryper, or Crystavox.
The only sad thing about the band is that they only put out one album but there is talk of another album coming out with the X vocalist of Sacred Warrior, Rey Parra doing vocals on a new Recon album :)
Musicians:
Vett Roberts–Lead Vocals
George Ochoa–Guitars
Eddie Starline–Guitars
Mike Grato–Bass
John Christianson–Drums
