My Disgrace
My Disgrace comes to us via Nashville,Tennessee offering up some fine Heavy Metal that is Blues oriented. Lots of bands like to incorporate the Blues element into their music without it being very technical Blues while falling more towards the softer side of the Metal spectrum. However, 'My Disgrace' seems to have found a nice balance, offering up Blues oriented Metal that is more on the technical side and more professional while maintaining their heaviness a lot like we find with the band 'Journey'.
My Disgrace has only one release to date 2008-'Rise' which was released on an independent record label. The album art work is very cool and very well done. What you will find on 'Rise' is Metal music that is very diverse from song to song without losing the cohesiveness of the album. The compositions go from Metal to 90's Alternative to Heavy Metal and to Power Metal all the while maintaining a Blues presence. 'Rise' ,with its technical elements, takes some time to digest and fully grasp. You need more than one listen to draw conclusions about this band. This is one of those albums that grows on you with repeat listens, getting better with each listen.
Vocals are handled by a duo lead vocal approach by Vocalists Joel Price and Rob Young who both do a great job for 'My Disgrace' here on this album. There are various moments when Joel & Rob reminde me of a "Metal" version of Steve Perry(Journey). This is in part due to the soprano like high end register with its Bluesy sound. For example, on the tune "Torn" we find a very good place to draw comparison of Joel/Rob sounding similar to Steve Perry. In other tunes on 'Rise', we even find Joel/Rob crossing over into the 90's Alternative scene with their delivery as you will find on the tune "Changed". Then there's the Bluesy register offered up by Joel/Rob that really helps to to give this album its unique sound and helps to put this album on a higher level than others. This vocal team are even found letting out a few sick screams every now and then.
Guitars are handled by the "Dynamic Duo" of Joel Price and Rob Young as well. The guitar work covers everything from Crunchy Guitars to Driving guitars to Thrash riffs to 90's shredding to Power Metal riffs to Blues Guitars and even to some acoustic guitar play. As you can see, there is plenty of diversity, with the guitar shredding, throughout this debut release.
Drummer Paul Simmons does a good job keeping time for the band and even cuts loose with some double-bass in the tunes "Forgive and Forget" , and "Rise". This band has placed Three Power Metal songs on this disc and the double-bass is common to that genre. The three songs are "Tears of Sorrow" , "Rise" , and "Changed".
Bassist Jeff Earl helps to round out the band with his bass lines helping to make the over all sound more full.
Lyrics are Christ centered and evangelical as you can see here:

Lyrics are Christ centered and evangelical as you can see here:
"Break"
I feel so far from You
Like a million miles away
And I just can’t seem to
Find a way to break through
This world is full of darkness
Full of temptation, lies and sin
And I’ve become a victim
Of the evil that’s within
Down on my knees I break
I can’t save me from myself
"Forgive and Forget"
Will I turn the other cheek and forgive my fellow man?
Or do I choose to walk the road I’ve walked before?
And throw away the cross of Christ
And pour out justice on my own
Here on my knees
I ask for strength
To forgive as You forgave me
Forgive and forget
"Torn"
But there’s hope in the Light
And if you seek you will find
The answers to fill the void inside
A voice of reason can’t touch you
When you scorn
You can’t get out of this prison
When you’re torn
But there’s hope in the Light
"Changed"
I needed a cure for my disease
I had a hole in my heart
That I couldn’t fill
And it’s so crazy how
You loved me still
After all of the sorrow
And all of the pain
It was Your forgiveness
That made me change
I feel so far from You
Like a million miles away
And I just can’t seem to
Find a way to break through
This world is full of darkness
Full of temptation, lies and sin
And I’ve become a victim
Of the evil that’s within
Down on my knees I break
I can’t save me from myself
