FEAR NOT is a Heavy Metal band from Los Angeles, California that saw its conception back in the early 90's. FEAR NOT's sound can be compared to bands like Skid Row, Siloam, Guardian, and Slaughter. The band takes the idea for their moniker from passages in the bible like Isaiah 43:1 "But now thus saith Jehovah that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel: Fear not, for I have redeemed thee; I have called thee by thy name, thou art mine."
Three of FEAR NOT's members were originally part of a band called LOVE LIFE including guitarist-Larry Worley, bassist-Rod Romero, and drummer-Gary Hanson. LOVE LIFE released just one album which was their debut full-length album titled 'Goodbye Lady Jane'. Unfortunately, their debut didn't receive the exposure that the band was hoping for. Shortly after the release of 'Good Bye Lady Jane', Darin Eby left the band and was replaced by guitarist-Chris Howell. It was then that the band changed their moniker to 'Fear Not' and began working on a new heavier album under the direction and leadership of the Elefante brothers.
In 1993 FEAR NOT released their debut full-length self-titled album on Pakaderm Records. Their debut quickly caught the attention of melodic Metal fans with their powerful vocals, big commercial hooks, and spot on production from the Elefante bros. Their debut garnered rave reviews and the exposure they needed to take their show on the road and to open for some big acts like Bride, Guardian, Deliverance, and Barron Cross. The band's line-up for their '93 debut was comprised of lead vocalist/guitarist-Larry Worley, guitarist-Chris Howell, bassist-Rod Romero, and drummer-Gary Hanson.
At the time of their debut release, the music scene was changing and the Grunge/Alternative scene was taking over. 80's style melodic Metal was no longer being promoted so FEAR NOT members decided to go on an indefinite hiatus leaving fans wondering if they would every return to the music scene again.
However, to their fans surprise, in 2019 FEAR NOT returned to the Metal scene with the release of a 5-track EP recording titled 'For The Wounded Heart' on Roxx Records. At this time, the band saw some major changes including a label change and a new lead vocalist front & center. Former vocalist-Larry Worley moved to the position of guitarist while 'Even The Dogs' frontman-Eddie Green took over as the band's new lead vocalist.
'For The Wounded Heart' has a 90's modern day Metal feel to it with tight production by Roxx Records.

After the release of their 2019 EP, FEAR NOT members faced adversity in their personal lives including illness, death of loved ones, and so much more that it wasn't certain if the band would ever produce another album. However, through these storms of life, the band was being inspired lyrically and musically. It was during this time that they were inspired & stepped out of the boat on faith and began recording new material for a new release. The album was well received by the Metal community and sparked hope for a future full-length release.
After almost 30 years since their debut release, FEAR NOT returned to the Metal scene with the release of their sophomore full-length studio album titled 'Fields of Sorrow' on Roxx Records. The CD version of 'Fields of Sorrow' was released on July 8, 2022 and features a Jewel case with a 16 page lyric book. On Sept. 17th 2022, a limited-edition black vinyl version was released & limited to only 200 copies worldwide. 'Fields of Sorrow' was conveniently released on all digital platforms. The album's cover art was done by Scott Waters of NoLifeTilMetal Graphics. In addition, the first 50 orders will receive a free album cover sticker.
"Fields of Sorrow was written from the perspective of the scripture that says "I will never leave you nor forsake you..." Hebrews 13:5 As we trudge on through battle after battle, the relentless attack of the enemy "Put your plow to the ground, churning up dust...praying for rain...reaping nothing but rust" It is keeping our eyes constantly fixed on Christ and believing in Him and His promises that bear fruit. Because we go through storms, and have trials, doesn't mean that God isn't listening, doesn't love us, and still has His plan for our life. "Sun sets on these Fields of Sorrow, no tomorrow I know (the devils words), Sun rises on these Fields of Sorrow, tomorrow I sow (Our faith and God's promise) Lastly...when we cry out to Him, cling to, and trust in Him...he is faithful and just to meet us where we are. "You said you would never leave me....I need to feel you now" Regardless of the storms in your life, God loves you and wants the best for you...always. - Eddie Green -
Larry Worley did a great job as the original vocalist back in 1993. However, I believe that vocalist-Eddie Green helps to bring the band into a relevant modern-day sound. With Eddie behind the mic, the band has the potential of reaching a broader audience with a vocal style that can be appreciated by both 80's and present-day Metal fans. The band had the following to say on this very subject: "This is, by far and away, the same godly gentleman, with the same heart, from 1993. We grew, spiritually, musically, and have evolved into what God has called us to do. Larry humbly realized that he no longer had the vocal stamina to do what he did in 1993. However, it is his amazing vocals on the chorus of "Fields of Sorrow". The band wanted to continue to bring God's message to a world who desperately needs it, and therefore employed my skills. God didn't call us to stay stuck in 1993. God has called us for such a time as this. We know we can't please everyone, nor are we trying to. We play ultimately for an audience of One." - Eddie Green -
Speaking of vocals, one thing that stands out, but not in a good way, is the backing vocals on a couple of tracks (2 and 3) where we find Hardcore/Metalcore style backing vocals. As a band, I think you have to decide who is your target audience and not try and wonder to far from the style you choose to play.

The guitars are managed by lead guitarist-Chris Sorensen & rhythm guitarist-Larry Worley. Both Sorensen & Worley amp things up on this 2022 project keeping the guitars heavy yet smooth from beginning to end. Their guitar work ranges from early 90's style shreddin' to Grunge to Bluesy to modern day play. While listening to this project, it quickly becomes clear that these two shredders did not cut their teeth on this recording...
Lyrics are thought provoking as one can see in the following excerpts:
"Fields of Sorrow"
Sun sets on these fields of sorrow
No tomorrow I know
Sun rises on these fields of sorrow
Tomorrow, I sow
Thunder cracks so loud
Rain falls down
Faith brings the storm
Quenching this parched ground
You said you would never leave me...
I need to feel you now
"Voluntary Madness"
When my soul's asleep
I turn to my liquid life
Voluntary Madness
Poisoning my brains
Take all my sadness
Start it all up again
Voluntary Madness
I feel like a slave
Quiet this Madness
To numb this pain
Uncork another liquid demon
Feel the burn run deep inside
"Lay It All Down"
Pick up the suitcase
I see the baggage of my life
I'm back down that dirty road
Deep into the night
He calls to me
Lay It All Down
Lay It Down
Lay It All Down
Come on! Lay It Down
"Black Soul Sunshine"
My mind goes back
To a simpler time, won't You
Take me back to be
A child of God again
"Struggle"
Time flies and I die
A little more and more each day
Eyes to the sky
And I begin to pray
One foot in the gutter
One foot in the grave
Now I lay me down to sleep
Can I be saved
Pray for my soul to keep
Cause the rest of me is lost
These burdens weigh me down
For I'm takin' up my cross
Woh! Reach down into the grave
And breath Your life into me
Woh! I have risen
I am Yours I am free
Yeah!
"American Prayer"
Can we just go back to simpler times?
We've lost God & lost our way
We complain instead of pray
Need to turn back today
No black and white just grey
No faith, just come what may
We've lost our way
Ooh Ooh! we've lost our way
It can start with me
So a nation can see
What happens if we choose to believe
Turn it all around if we fall to the ground
Do you care to take my dare
And start our, our American prayer
Sun sets on these fields of sorrow
No tomorrow I know
Sun rises on these fields of sorrow
Tomorrow, I sow
Thunder cracks so loud
