Deliverance is a Los Angeles, CA Thrash band that was founded by Jimmy Brown back in 1985. Deliverance is one of the first Christian bands to offer a heavier alternative to Rock music.
At an interview at Noizz Eater we discover some of the bands which have influenced Jimmy P. Brown over the years: "...Metallica, Slayer, SOD and Anthrax were influences for sure. But I always loved Queensryche as well. So, I always tried to mix the two styles".
When we analyze the band's name we find that Deliverance is defined as a rescue from bondage or danger. In the bible in 1 Thessalonians 1:10 we find "...Jesus who delivers us from the wrath to come." Deliverance can be found by putting your faith in Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

The group started out as a Speed Metal band with their first appearance on a 1987 compilation album called 'California Metal'. The band had two singles featured on this release including "A Space Called You", and "Attack". Deliverance holds certain significance for this listener because they were the first Thrash band that I was exposed to back in the early 90's when I was a teenager. With that said, they have always had a special place in my music collection and always will.
What I really like about this band is that you can easily understand the words that vocalist-Jimmy P. Brown is singing and the lyrics are Christ centered as well. Jimmy has an incredible soaring vocal delivery that is unmatched in the music industry.
Also there is nothing lacking in the guitar department either as axeman-George Ochoa and axeman-Jimmy Brown deliver stellar Thrash Riffs from beginning to end with moments of speed metal as fast as lightening. Once again proving that two guitars are better than one.
In 1986 Deliverance released their independent demo titled 'Greetings Of Death' which sold a whopping 5000 cassettes. The demo went out of print and became a rare collectors item.

In 1989 Deliverance released their full-length self-titled debut album on Intense Records. The band's debut might not have received the same level of attention as their sophomore release however this is indeed a solid effort by the band and a collectible album worth checking out. The line-up for their self-titled album was comprised of Jimmy P. Brown II-Lead Vocals & Guitars, Glenn Rogers-Guitars, Brian Khairullah-Bass, Chris Hyde-Drums.
In 1990 Deliverance released their highly anticipated follow-up sophomore full-length album titled 'Weapons Of Our Warfare' on Intense Records. Most bands have one iconic album that they will always be known for the rest of their career and for Deliverance that album will always be 'Weapons Of Our Warfare'. With this second release there was a line-up change in the guitar section with Glenn Rogers being replaced by guitarist-George Ochoa. With this release came some big exposure for the band with the release of a video on MTV of their title track "Weapons of Our Warfare".
In this listeners opinion, the band's first two albums are their best work to date, staying true to the Thrash genre and setting the bar high for others to follow. However, the band went on to release various other albums after their sophomore effort. In 1991 the band released their third full-length studio album titled 'What A Joke' on Intense Records. The album followed in the veins of their first two offerings with a healthy dose of traditional Thrash Metal. In 1992, Just one year later, Deliverance darkened the entrance of the studio to record their fourth full-length album titled 'Stay Of Execution' on Intense Records. By this time the Grunge scene was in full swing and Metal bands are having to adapt or drown. Deliverance chose to adapt their sound by adding some alternative elements especially in lead and backing vocals. This is a quality release that any Metal fan should consider adding to their collection. In 1993 the band released their 5th full-length album simply titled 'Learn' on Intense Records. This release finds the band re-imagining their sound and adding more melodic flavorings. In 1994 Deliverance released their sixth full-length album titled 'River Disturbance' on Brainstorm Artists International Records. This release finds the band continuing in the same direction as their previous album-'Learn' with a healthy dose of melodic offerings. In 1995 Deliverance released their 7th full-length album titled 'Camelot-In-Smithereens' on Intense Records. This album continues in the melodic direction with some solid vocal work from frontman Jimmy P. Brown. In 2001 the band released their eighth full-length album titled 'Assimilation' on Indie Dream Records. Assimilation is a solid offering by the band which mixes Thrash with melodic music and lightly seasoning it all with touches of alternative. One track worth checking out here is track-5 "Sell Your Soul".

Deliverance also sets the standard for Christ centered, unashamed, lyrical content.
The following are some lyrics to the song "If You Will" off their self-titled album:
The following are some lyrics to the song "If You Will" off their self-titled album:
"If You Will"
The bloody cross, it stands alone on a hill
It cries out to the souls of men
Accept Him if you will
Jesus comes that you might have life
Satan comes to kill
There's really only one choice, my friend
Choose Christ if you will
Whether you know or don't know
The Word of God is true
It's a double edged sword
Ripping the heart in two
The day to choose is near at hand
Your ending is drawing near
It will either be the King Jesus
Or the defeated one Satan
"Weapons of our Warfare"
Imaginations running wild
Innocent they seem
Polluting your mind
A formulated scheme
The battle, it start in your mind
A lesson to be learned
Provoking thoughts only cause the sin
That provoking thoughts have earned
Cast down imaginations of every high thing
That dare exalts itself against the knowledge of God
The weapons of our warfare
Powerful they are
No nuclear warfare attacks can bring these strongholds down
To take dominion over Satan's own ground
Rise up with the sword of god and put your armor on
And the weapons of our warfare aren't carnal
Imaginations running wild
Innocent they seem
They've polluted your mind
The formulated scheme
The battle, it started in your mind
A lesson to be learned
Provoking thoughts only caused the sin
That provoking thoughts have earned
Cast down imaginations of every high thing
That dare exalts itself against the knowledge of God

There is no doubt that Deliverance has set the standard for the Thrash Metal genre especially on their first two albums. If you are considering adding some Thrash Metal to your collection then look no further than Deliverance cause this is Proper Thrash at its best.
